ROHNERT PARK — The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors finished 2-2 at the Seawolf Spike Classic at Sonoma State after defeating Dominican University in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-15) and dropping their afternoon match to BYU Hawaii, 1-3 (20-25, 25-20, 14-25, 22-25).
Coming off of their first loss of the season Friday afternoon, the Warriors started their first game with the momentum to win and never lost it. In set one, they had a 11-3 run over the penguins. Set two was a much closer game with Dominican not allowing the Warriors to pull away until the end. The team was also very strong defensively at the net, accruing 9 team blocks.
Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors with 12 kills and
Jennifer Marsh was also a threat at the net with 9 kills.
Eva Chafeh also recorded 7 kills for the match.
Melissa Bishop led with 6 blocks and she also contributed with 2 kills.
Serving was another strong point for the Warriors in their morning match, tallying 11 total service aces.
Megan Britton led with 5 aces. Vicchio and
Andrea Fett also recorded 2 aces a piece.
Vicchio also led in their afternoon game with 16 kills.
Melissa Bishop recorded 13 kills and
Jennifer Marsh also had another strong game with 10 kills.
Megan Britton led the team with 24 digs and setter
Nicki Brown recorded 42 assists, totaling 71 assists on the day.
The Warriors will begin conference play Friday, Sept. 10 against Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.
