Stanislaus falls to #3 San Bernardino

TURLOCK — The Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes held off a decent effort by the Warriors but the No. 3 ranked team in Division II continued its streak as they spiked Cal State Stanislaus in straight sets, 25-15, 26-24, 25-21.

The Coyotes, ranked No. 3 in this week's AVCA Coaches Top 25, remain undefeated as they improved to 21-0 overall and 16-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus falls to 9-11 overall and 5-11 in the CCAA.

Samantha Middleborn led the Coyotes with 13 kills and five service aces. Two other CSUSB players had seven kills each. Cal State San Bernardino has now won 21 straight matches against Stanislaus dating back to 2000.

CSUSB also had 18 total blocks led by Megan Johnson with six.

Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors with eight kills and eight digs. It was just the fifth time in 20 matches this season that she had single digits in both kills and digs in one night.

Jessica Lehner had six service aces that led to a total nine CSUSB service errors.

Cal State Stanislaus had early leads in both sets one and two. In set one, the Warriors were up 5-1 but after it was tied up at 11-11, the Coyotes rolled off 14 of the next 19 points for the win. In set two, Stanislaus was again leading 6-1. CSUSB rallied and a tight set ensued. The Warriors led as late as 24-22, but the Coyotes scored four straight points to win.

UC San Diego is the next opponent for Cal State Stanislaus as the Tritons visit Saturday night at 7 p.m.
