TURLOCK — Jose Velazquez was the hero again for the Warriors' men's soccer team. The senior forward scored the golden goal in overtime to lift Cal State Stanislaus over Cal State San Bernardino Friday night.

Velazquez's winner came just before the end of the first overtime period, at 99:13, to give the Warriors their second consecutive victory. Cal State Stanislaus improved to 7-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Since Sonoma State and Cal State L.A. played to a 1-1 tie Friday, Cal State Stanislaus is now tied for second place in the CCAA North, just one point behind Chico State. The Warriors are 2-0-1 in their last three matches.

Velazquez, who now leads the team with five goals, scored twice in the second half in last Sunday in the Warriors' incredible come from behind 4-3 win over Sonoma State.

Friday night at Warrior Stadium, both teams played evenly for the most part after the Warriors were held without a shot in the first half. CSUSB had three shots. Both teams each took six second half shots with just one shot shot on goal.

Both teams also took three shots in the overtime period, but it was the third and final shot that found the back of the net.

Luis Guzman took a corner kick into play and eventually found Keith Ramirez. Ramirez lobbed the ball into the air with Velazquez heading in the winner.

In Sunday's win over Sonoma State, Velazquez helped with the team's first goal with an assist, sent in a corner kick for a score and tied the game with a 23-yard free kick blast during the rally.

The Warriors will look to continue the successful streak on Sunday when they host UC San Diego. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m.
