CHICO — Four different Warriors had at least five kills apiece, but Chico State defeated visiting Cal State Stanislaus in straight sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18, Wednesday night at Acker Gym.
Andrea Fett led the Warriors with seven kills but Cal State Stanislaus fell to 9-13 overall and 5-13 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Eva Chafeh and
Jennifer Marsh each had six kills with
Lianne Vicchio chipping in with five kills. Vicchio led the team with eight digs and
Jaclyn Pinasco had seven. Setters
Jessica Lehner and
Sarah Blume split time with 12 and 13 assists, respectively.
It was a close first set with no one leading by more than two points early. Cal State Stanislaus went on a 6-0 run to get to 20-13 with Blume serving. Eventually Chico State tied it at 22-22 and 23-23 before a Jacqueline Johnson kill for set point. A CSUS service error gave Chico the set.
Chico State was led by Jacqueline Johnson with 13 kills. Jessica Leek had 14 digs and Sable Villaescusa had 38 assists.
The Warriors will have two more road matches this week with contests at Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay before finishing out the season at home next weekend.
