11/5/2011 4:01:00 PM

TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team will be playing for its first California Collegiate Athletic Association conference championship on Sunday when the Warriors take on Chico State at Warrior Stadium.

The Warriors posted a 2-1 upset over UC San Diego, ranked 7th in the nation, Friday behind goals by Liz Scherrer and Karenee Demery.

Sunday's championship match from Warrior Stadium is being televised live by the Comcast Hometown Network. It is available to all Comcast Cable subscribers in Northern and Central California on Channel 104. Kickoff is a 11:30 a.m.

Dave Lewis of KCBS is providing the play by play with former San Jose Earthquake star Troy Dayak serving as the color analyst.

Live video streamming of the match is also available on WarriorAthletics.com by clicking on the video link.

For Cal State Stanislaus, the Warriors are playing for their first conference championship in women's soccer. They are also playing for Cal State Stanislaus' fifth conference title during the CCAA era. The last time a Cal State Stanislaus team won a conference championship was in 2008 when the softball team captured a CCAA title. The men's golf program won CCAA championships in 1999, 2001 and 2007.

The Warriors and the Wildcats are extremely familiar with each other as the programs play twice annually. Chico State leads the all-time record 14-5-5, but the Warriors are unbeaten in the last three (2-0-1). In 2011, Cal State Stanislaus is 1-0-1 against Chico State with a 2-1 win here on Sept. 11 and a 1-1 tie on Sept. 30. The Warriors also beat Chico State, 4-0, near the end of last season (Oct. 30).

In the Sept. 11, 2-1 win over Chico State, Allison Case scored 25 seconds into the second half for a 1-0 CSUS lead. After Carly Singer tied the match in the 66th minute with a penalty kick goal, Karenee Demery took a Vanessa Cervantes pass up the middle, dribbled, juked a couple of defenders and shot it past a diving Chico goalie Brianna Furner to the left for the winner with 49 seconds left to play.

On Sept. 30 at Chico State, the teams played to a 1-1 draw. Demery gave Stanislaus a 1-0 lead at 77:16, but 43 seconds later the Wildcats even the score with a Kasey Wall goal.

Prior to the tournament, the Warriors were ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II West Region poll with the top six teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament. A win today would give the Warriors the automatic berth for the NCAA Tournament. If the Warriors advance, it would be the program's first trip to the NCAA tournament. The tournament field will be announced on Monday.

Tickets for the 2011 CCAA Men's & Women's Soccer Championship matches are available at the Warrior Stadium Box Office beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The men's title match features Chico State and Cal State L.A.
