TURLOCK — Cal State Stanislaus was not able to recover from a sluggish start against the pesky Gators as San Francisco State defeated the Warriors in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-14, Saturday night.

San Francisco State was in command of the match for the majority of the night as the Gators picked up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association win to improve to 1-4 in conference play. SF State is 5-5 overall.

The Warriors lost at Fitzpatrick Arena for the first time this season and are now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA.

Cal State Stanislaus, coming off a strong performance Friday night in a solid win over Cal Poly Pomona, fell behind early in the first. The Warriors managed to keep it close halfway through and even led briefly twice. However, they could not recover from five service errors in the opening set to fall 25-23.

The Warriors never had the lead again the rest of the night as SF State took control. Even when Cal State Stanislaus managed mini-comebacks and tries to regain momentum, the Gators were able to stay ahead with effective net-play, timely defense and balanced attacks by their leading hitters.

Lauren Walsh led SF State with 13 kills, Halimah Oswald had 10 and Megan Johnson chipped in nine. The Gators ended up with seven service aces and out-attacked the Warriors (.280 to .202) with 47 total kills (to Stanislaus's 33).

For the Warriors, Lianne Vicchio did her part with another double-double -- 13 kills and 12 digs -- while Andrea Fett led the defense with 13 digs. Jessica Lehner had the next high in kills with five.

After the intermission, San Francisco State wouldn't let the Warriors rebound as the Gators had their best set of the night. They were 17-for-37 with two errors on the attack for a .405 percentage. SFSU also had a sideout percentage of 80.
