Stanislaus men end streak with loss at UCSD

10/19/2012 9:10:00 PM

Box Score LA JOLLA — The Warriors are still looking for their first win at UC San Diego as they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Tritons on Friday.

Cal State Stanislaus snapped its winning streak at four matches as the Warriors fell to 8-3-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. With Sonoma State losing at Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night, the Warriors remain in second place in the CCAA North behind Chico State.

The Warriors, ranked fourth in the initial NCAA West Regional rankings released earlier this week, will look to rebound on Sunday at Cal State San Bernardino.

In six matches at La Jolla since UCSD joined the CCAA in 2000, the Warriors are now 0-4-2 at Triton Stadium.

The Tritons (8-4-2, 7-3-2 CCAA) knocked in the only score of the match in the 55th minute on an Elan Gefen goal. Kian Malek's shot was nicely saved by Stanislaus goalkeeper Clint Long but Gefen got the rebound and finished for the lone goal.

Stanislaus was out-shot by UCSD 10-9 in a defensive match. The Tritons had seven shots on goal but Long picked up six saves to keep it a 1-0 match.

The final score was the fourth straight one-goal match for the Warriors. They are now 5-1 in six one-goal matches this season.

The Warriors had built their winning streak to four matches last weekend with a pair of victories. The streak had matched a program-best and that success led to a No. 4 ranking in the NCAA West Region poll — the highest mark for a CCAA team.
