Box Score SAN BERNARDINO — The Road Warriors accomplished yet another tall task during the 2012 season as they completed the regular season road schedule with a perfect 9-0 record after Sunday's 3-1 win at Cal State San Bernardino.
Three unanswered goals by
Karenee Demery,
Apryl Whitney and
Alisa Barlow lifted the Warriors as they improved to 14-2 overall and 10-2 in the CCAA North. Cal State Stanislaus, which had clinched a conference tournament berth after Friday's win at UC San Diego, trails No. 5 Sonoma State by just one point in the standings heading into the final weekend (SSU edged Cal State L.A., 1-0, in double overtime on Sunday).
"It is exciting to go into the final weekend of the regular season knowing you have clinched a spot in the post season," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said.
Next week, the 20th ranked Warriors host Chico State on Friday before a critical match against Sonoma State in the regular season finale on Sunday.
Today, the 2012 Warriors became the first in program history to go undefeated on the road during the season -- an extremely difficult task in any sport.
"This is probably the most difficult road trip in the CCAA, so to come away with two wins says a lot about our team," Bolton said. "We are an experienced team with players that have been here before. That makes a big difference when you play on the road."
CSUSB jumped out on top eight minutes into the match with a score by Priscalla Gomez, but the Warriors bounced right back.
Demery scored her league-leading 15th goal just minutes later at 12:06 to even the score. Whitney made it 2-1 just before the break with a header goal off of a
Jordan Moineau corner kick. It was Whitney's third goal in the last three matches. She scored the only goal in Friday's win over No. 12 UC San Diego.
"The goal we gave up was against the run of play.  Sometimes when that happens it can really shake your confidence.  We showed a lot of mental toughness to just keep playing good soccer," Bolton added.
Cal State Stanislaus tagged on a third score in the 61st minute on a goal by
Alisa Barlow from a
Emily Relles corner kick to put away the game. Relles continues to pile on her assist total to a CCAA-leading 12, which is now a new CSU Stanislaus single season record. Relles has assisted on goals in four consecutive matches.
The Warriors out-shot CSUSB (7-7-2, 5-7-1) 12 to 8 and
Millie Brown earned four saves.
"We battled through a lot of adversity today and played some excellent soccer against an extremely physical and explosive team," said Bolton.
