Box Score TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team finished the season full of adversity as the CCAA tournament-bound Cal State Monterey Bay team defeated the Warriors, 72-60, on senior night.
Jameiz Terrell, the only senior on the court Friday night, finished her career with a resilient effort by scoring 16 points. Junior
Devin Brown led the way with 17 points, tying her season and career best out-put.
Lauren Godde scored 12 points with six rebounds, plus three blocks and three steals.
Three Warriors --
Molly Farrar,
Erin Godde,
Briana Cotton -- each pulled seven rebounds. Cal State Stanislaus ended the 2011-12 season 6-20 overall and 3-19 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Monterey Bay, which was playing for a first round home game in the CCAA tournament, closed the regular season 18-8 overall and 15-7 in the CCAA. The Otters, unofficially, will be the No. 2 seed team in the tournament when the seeding is announced tonight.
Erika Ward led Cal State Monterey Bay with 18 points. Britnee Lewis had 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Warriors were down to six players for the finale -- and all six of them played with a lot of heart for the full 40 minutes. Terrell had to play back to back 40-minute games this weekend and stuck it out until the end. Stanislaus had two players fouled out forcing them to play with four players in the game's final 50 seconds.
Brown, the lone non-starter on Friday, responded off the bench hitting on 3 of 7 field goal attempts and made 11 of 12 free throw tries to lead the team with 17 points. She also had three assists. Cotton, a true freshman, ended up with nine points to go with her seven boards.
Cal State Stanislaus was within seven early in the second half until CSUMB caught fire to build a lead as large as 23 points at 7:26. Back-to-back three-pointers by Terrell and Cotton sparked a Warrior run of 15-2 to cut the deficit to 10 just inside the three-minute mark after a pair of
Erin Godde free throws.
