Box Score CHICO — It was built as another close match for the rivals and it did not disappoint, except for the outcome as Chico State shutout Cal State Stanislaus, 2-0.

The Wildcats scored early in both halves of the contest as the host team improved to 5-2-1, 4-1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

For the Warriors, they were limited to five shots, as they were held scoreless for the third time this season and fell to 4-2-2, 2-2-2 in conference play.

Of the previous 14 meetings since 2005 in this series, 12 of those contests were decided by one goal or less with nine 1-0 contests. Friday night, it was a third occassion for a 2-0 score.

Jake Ward netted a Chico goal in the 12th minute and Matt Hurlow scored six minutes into the second half.

Chico State out-shot the Warriors 11-0 in the first half and 16-5 for the match.

Warrior goalkeeper Clint Long, who leads the conference in the category, picked up five saves.

Cal State Stanislaus will look to regroup and challenge Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay on the road next weekend.
