CHICO — Behind the great defensive effort and a late goal by Karenee Demery, 10th ranked Cal State Stanislaus came out victorious with a 1-0 win at Chico State Friday night.

After spraying the Wildcats with shots most of the night, Demery's header try found the back of the net as the Warriors won their sixth straight to improve to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association North Division.

Cal State Stanislaus remains undefeated on the road at 5-0 as the Warriors and goalkeeper Millie Brown picked up their fifth shutout this season.

The Warriors took 20 shots with 12 on frame and limited Chico State (4-5, 2-4 CCAA) to just four shots (two on goal).

"We played absolutely fantastic tonight in every phase of the game," head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Defensively to limit Chico to two shots on goal at their place required a fantastic effort. Our team defense was outstanding."

In the second half alone, the Warriors out-shot Chico State, 11-2 — and the score came on the last shot attempt of the night.

At 87:18, Allison Case and Allie Dugan partnered up on the passing game to find Demery in the box for the header finish. The goal by Demery is her 11th on the season and her sixth game-winner in 2012.

"Offensively we created a lot of chances and were very effective against a well organized defense," added Bolton.

Demery, who earned her second CCAA player of the week honor earlier in the week, has racked up 46 career goals with 12 winners.

The score also came just after Chico's best chance to get on the board. In the 86th minute, the Wildcats got behind the Stanislaus defenders but Brown came up with a huge save against Jenny Konishi's attempt.

"That was the only time they got in behind our back-line and Millie came up big. She is a great keeper and we know she will make the big saves," said Bolton.

Other than the penalty shoot-out "loss" at the NCAA Regionals that ended the Stanislaus season a year ago, the Warriors are now 4-0-1 against Chico State in the series.
