Ramirez led Stanislaus comeback before coming up short in OT

CARSON — Jose Ramirez scored twice in the second half to lead the Warriors' men's soccer team rally all the way back to force overtime before host Cal State Dominguez Hills edge Cal State Stanislaus, 4-3, at the StubHub Center Friday night.

Down 3-1, Ramirez' scored in the 59th minute and then again with less than four minutes left to play to tie the match and forced overtime. However, CSUDH's Alejand Covarrubias sent home the sudden victory goal 5:32 into the first extra time.

The Warriors, still looking for their first Friday victory this season, dropped to 4-6-1 overall and 3-6-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The three goals scored, however, are the team's firsts this year on Fridays.

Cal State Dominguez Hills improved to 7-2-2 and 5-2-2 CCAA.

The Warriors had scored first when Carlos Gavino netted his third of the year in the 12th minute after collecting a loose ball to knock it in past the Toros goalkeeper.

CSUDH tied the match just seven mintues later on a score by Aaron Salazar. The Toros was awarded a penalty kick at 39:38, which former Warrior Jio Santana booted past Clint Long. They then opened the second half on an Andrew Johnson score at 49:43.

Ramirez's first goal of the night, at 58:11, was a header assisted by Gavino. He tied the match at 86:05 after finishing his own rebound.

The Warriors played tough and hung in the match througout despite being out-shot 23-9, including 10-2 in the opening half. Long finished with six saves.
