Madrigal, Ramirez lift Warriors over Humboldt State

Box Score TURLOCK — Goals by Christian Madrigal and Jose Ramirez completed a Cal State Stanislaus comeback as the Warriors upend Humboldt State, 2-1, Friday evening at Warrior Stadium.

The Warriors, winners of four of last five matches, improved to 8-8-1 overall and 7-8-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. With another win on Sunday, Stanislaus can still finish with a winning season — its fifth consecutive.

Second half goals by Madrigal, at 61:02, and Ramirez, in the 84th minute, erased a 1-0 deficit to help Cal State Stanislaus win another match in this series against Humboldt State. The Warriors are now 9-0-2 in the last 11 contests against the Lumberjacks.

Zach Hammond gave HSU, 6-10-1, 4-10-1 CCAA, a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a direct kick that tipped off CSUS goalkeeper Clint Long's glove.

That score remained until the 62nd when the Warriors got even.

Madrigal picked up Lino Maldonado throw-in and scored to the bottom right corner for hte equalizer. Ramirez then scored on a shot to the upper right-V at 83:43. Ramirez received a great through ball from Willie Gomez after a touch by Madrigal.

Long finished with nine saves on the night, tying his season-best. He now has 178 saves in his career, three from tying No. 2 on the CSUS career records list.

The Warriors will wrap-up the season on Sunday with their senior day game against Cal State East Bay at 11:30 a.m. Kyle Cadigan and Josh Handley will be playing in their final game as a Warrior.
