SF State hands Warriors first loss in high-scoring game

Box Score SAN FRANCISCO — The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team wasn't able to keep-up with the hot shooting and high-scoring offense of San Francisco State as the Gators handed the Warriors their first loss of the season Saturday night.

Katie Batlin and Angela Van Sickle dominated for the second straight night as San Francisco State defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 96-81, to improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Batlin scored 27 points and Van Sickel 24 as the duo accounted for 51 of the Gators' points. In Friday's SF State win over Chico State, the pair tallied 45 points (Van Sickel 24 and Batlin 21).

Lauren Godde led Stanislaus, now 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA, with 19 points and nine rebounds. Briana Cotton netted 16 points on 6 of 21 shooting (nine came from three-pointers) and Jasmine Washington scored 13 points with five assists. Riley Holladay scored 12 to go with seven rebounds.

San Francisco State shot 59.4 percent in the first half to run off to a 55-38 lead at the break. The Gators used the first four minutes of the game for a 17-4 lead that included three three-pointers. SFSU's biggest lead was 20 points with 1:49 left before intermission.

The Gators ended up with eight three-pointers — four from Van Sickel.

The Warriors got as close as 11 points on a Erin Godde three-pointer five minutes into the second half to make it 61-50, but SFSU used a 11-2 run to gain its second 20-point lead at 11:41.

Cal State Stanislaus shot 40.5 percent for the game while SF State finished a balmy 54.5 percent shooting.

On Friday, the Warriors posted a 5-0 record for the first time since 2000. Cal State Stanislaus returns home for a pair of non-conference games next week. The Warriors host William Jessup Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Menlo College at 5 pm. on Saturday.
