TURLOCK — In a defensive match, the visiting Cal State San Bernardino got an early second half goal as the Coyotes edged the Warriors, 1-0, Friday night.
Roberto Mariscal netted the only score on the night 40 seconds into the second half to help his Coyotes stay unbeaten at 3-0-2. The match was the California Collegiate Athletic Association opener for both teams.
Cal State Stanislaus, which held a three-match winning streak against Cal State San Bernardino, is now 1-1-1 overall.
The Warriors had scored a goal in each contest last weekend on the road in Nampa, Idaho, but was shutout for the first time at home since nearly exactly a year ago on Sept. 14 in a scoreless draw against Cal State East Bay.
CSUSB out-shot the Warriors 16-9 but held just a 6-5 edge in the opening period.
Stanislaus goalkeeper Clint Long earned five saves with the team picking up two team saves.
On the Coyotes scoring play, Long blocked a Gabriel Quintero shot, but Mariscal got the rebound to put CSUSB up 1-0.
The Warriors will look to rebound on Sunday when they host No. 18 Chico State at 2 p.m.
