TURLOCK — The long-awaited home opener for the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team did not disappoint as a much-younger and inexperienced team fell to a veteran No. 10 ranked UC San Diego side Friday night.
The Warriors, playing in front of their home fans for the first time, put up a great fight with an entertaining match before dropping the contest in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21.
Cal State Stanislaus (4-8, 1-2 CCAA) had opened the year with 11 straight away contests and Friday's home debut drew more than 432 loud and cheerful fans.
Paige Walker led all players with 12 kills with 13 digs for another double-double to lead the Warriors. Blair Ehrlich had eight kills on 40 swings and Taylor Massgengale chipped in six kills with three total blocks. Sarah Crowl led the Warriors with 15 of the 56 team digs.
UC San Diego (10-2, 2-2 CCAA) was led by Lizzy Andrew's 10 kills while Danielle Dahle added ninie. Libero Brittany Lombardi had 24 digs.
The Warriors will host No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino, which beat UCSD on Wednesday, Saturday night at 7 p.m.
