Warriors push #20 Cal St. San Bernardino to four sets

TURLOCK — Against the powerhouse team of Cal State San Bernardino, the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team played inspired and pushed the 20th rank Coyotes to four sets before faltering.

The Warriors fought in the first set and won the third but the visiting Coyotes won in four, 25-21, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, to stay unbeaten in California Collegiate Athletic Association play at 5-0. They are now 9-4 overall with their sixth straight win.

Jocelyn Cervantes had 13 kills and a career-high 16 digs with three service aces to lead Cal State Stanislaus (4-9, 1-4 CCAA). She recorded four of her kills in the third set when the Warriors rolled off to a 25-18 win. Blair Ehrlich and Hannah Green also played big roles in the victorious third set while libero Sarah Crowl picked up eight of her match-best 20 digs.

In the battle between two of the current leading liberos in the CCAA, Crowl held the edge Saturday night with her 20. CSUSB's Arielle McCullough had 11 digs, most of them in the fourth set. McCullough still leads the CCAA with 261 digs and Crowl has tallied 259.

Paige Walker earned her sixth double-double of the year -- and third straight -- with 12 kills and 12 digs. Ehrlich chipped in 11. Green finished with 39 assists and two aces.

Cal State San Bernardino dominated at the net with 21 total blocks and three solos. Brenna McIntosh had eight blocks (two solo) to go with her team-best 12 kills. Turlock's Ashley Solis had 10 kills and 12 digs. As a team, CSUSB hit .257 (53 for 148 and 15 errors) and served nine aces.

After just completed played in their first two home matches of the year, the Warriors have to hit the road again next week with short trips to the Bay Area. They will travel to Cal State East Bay on Friday and San Francisco State on Saturday.
