EAGLE, Idaho – A late Northwest Nazarene score spoiled the season opener for the Warriors as the host Crusaders escaped with a 1-1 draw late Friday night.

Juan Perez finished off a cross from Luke Broz with 6 minutes, 36 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

John DiLulo added an assist in the play, as the Crusaders (0-0-1 overall) battled hard to even the score after Kyle Cadigan scored 3:14 into the game, giving the Warriors (0-0-1) an early edge.

Josh Handley's throw-in was headed in by the 6-foot-4 senior in Cadigan as Stanislaus's first official goal of the new year.

The game was moved to Eagle High School after being delayed by lightning and eventually moved off the NNU campus because of sever rain. The match started nearly three hours later than originally scheduled.

Clint Long made three saves in goal for the Warriors, while NNU freshman keeper Ryan Foo also made three saves in his collegiate debut.

The Warriors return to the field Saturday in Nampa, Idaho, to play Colorado Mesa. The Crusaders face the Mavericks on Monday at 1 p.m.
