1/23/2014 9:36:00 PM

Box Score ARCATA — The Warriors came up just short in one of the thoughest buildings to play in in the CCAA on Thursday as they lost at Humboldt State, 80-76.

A see-saw battled ended up with the Warriors needed to hit three pointers at the end of the game but they came up empty twice as Stanislaus snapped a four-game winning streak. The Warriors, who entered the night tied for second place in the CCAA, dropped to 11-4 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Rob Walters had a huge rebounding night, pulling 17 boards to go with 15 points for his second double-double in three games. Chris Read, who tried a three-pointer in the final seconds in an attempt to even the score, finished with a team-best 19 points. Marcus Bell scored 13 points on 5 of 9 field goal tries.

Humboldt State, which was just 3-7 in its last 10, defended its Lumberjack Arena court to improve to 8-9 overall and 3-8 in the CCAA. David Howard led HSU with 27 points.

Walters gave the Warriors an one-point lead, 76-75, with a short jumper at 1:18 left to play, but a pair of HSU free throws swung the lead back to HSU, 77-76.

The Warriors elected to take a three-pointer but missed the chance with 51 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, after a timeout, HSU's Derrick Buchanan made a layup with the shot-clock expiring for a three-point lead with 16 seconds remaining.

Another Stanislaus three-point attempt to tie failed and HSU's Allan Guei made one of two free throws to end the game.

Cal State Stanislaus, 8-0 at home this season, fell to 3-4 on the road. The Warriors will have to travel a long ways south to Pomona for a match against Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday. The team will stop in Santa Rosa Thursday night before continuing its bus trip to Pomona on Friday.
