10/10/2014 11:33:00 PM

Box Score LA JOLLA - Against a stingy defensive team in UC San Diego, the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team was able to leave La Jolla by picking up a point in the standings Friday night.

The Warriors held off a surging home team at Triton Stadium and parlayed their 1-0 lead into a 1-1 tie on the road at a very tough place for the visiting team to be successful. Cal State Stanislaus is now 4-4-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

UC San Diego, which had posted two straight wins over Stanislaus the last two seasons, suffered its first tie this season and is now 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in CCAA play.

Rafael Chavez scored his first goal as a Warrior in the first half, at 35:15 to give Stanislaus a 1-0 lead on its first shot on goal. Gerardo Cazares assisted on the play.

The score stood at 1-0 until the 63rd minute when the Tritons equaled the score on a Sean Pleskow goal.

The Warriors held a slight 17-15 shots on goal advantage with six on goal. UCSD goalkeeper Cameron McElfresh picked up five saves.

Entering the match, McElfresh had held a 0.63 goals against average and the Tritons had only allowed one goal in their last five wins including two shutouts last week.

Warriors' Clint Long had three saves.

Cal State Stanislaus will travel to face Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday. The Broncos, ranked 10th in the nation, have won nine straight matches and are 10-0-1 and 5-0-0. They have recorded eight shutouts and allowed just three goals this season.
