Warriors scored on #10 Cal Poly Pomona in loss

Box Score POMONA - Against one of the toughtest teams to score on, the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team netted a goal before falling to the No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos Sunday at Kellogg Field.

Jose Ramirez led a late Stanislaus rally and scored in the 79th minute before the 2-1 loss to the Broncos. The Warriors are now 4-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal Poly Pomona won its 10th straight match to improve to 11-0-1 and 6-0-0 CCAA.

Entering Sunday's contest, Pomona had recorded eight shutouts and allowed just three goals on the season (two goals allowed before this weekend). Despite being out-shot for just the second time this season, 17-8, the Warriors got one past the defense and Broncos goalkeeper late.

Ramirez took a loose ball after a scramble in front of the net for the score - his third this season.

Russ Klabough started and play in all 90 minutes in goal for the Warriors on Sunday and he picked up six saves.

The Broncos scored both goals in the first half within about three and a half minutes. Armando Ochoa scored in the 35th minute and Leonel Espinoza's header at 37:48 made it 2-0.

The Warriors will return to the same area next week when they take on Cal State San Bernardino on Friday before coming home to host Chico State on Sunday.
