Stanislaus prepares for CPP, UCSD with pink and blue nights

This weekend marks the volleyball edition of the Warriors Give Back weekend as the Warriors host Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego. Friday is the annual CCAA Dig for a Cure match and Saturday is Make-A-Wish Night.

Promotions: Friday night is the CCAA Dig for a Cure match at Fitzpatrick Arena as the Warriors support Breast Cancer awareness. Fans will receive a special edition pink Warrior T-shirts with a donation benefiting the Bill & Elsie Ahlem Cancer Endowment at Turlock's Emmual Medical Center … the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host its first Make-A-Wish night of the season Saturday night. Contributions to the Make-A-Wish Fundation will be accepted.

Series Notes: Cal Poly Pomona has a five-match winning streak against the Warriors. Stanislaus won three straight against the Broncos in 2010-11. The Broncos lead the all-time series 25-7. The Warriors won six of the seven matches in Turlock … The Warriors have a seven-match losing streak against UC San Diego since upsetting the 21st ranked Tritons, 3-1, on Sept. 25, 2010 in Turlock. UCSD leads the series 24-3 and is 13-0 in La Jolla against Stanislaus.

Last Time Against Opponents: Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego swept the season series in 2013. Pomona beat the Warriors last Nov. 22 in Turlock in a match played at Pitman High School (Presidential Investiture at Fitzpatrick Arena). Blair Ehrlich had 17 kills and Hannah Green posted 35 assists to lead the team in that match … Against UC San Diego, on Nov. 2, 2013, the 12th ranked Tritions won in straight sets in La Jolla. Ehrlich had 14 kills and 14 digs and Nicole Kincaide chipped in 10 kills for the Warriors.

Snapping Streaks: With the impressive 3-0 win at San Francisco State on Saturday, the Warriors ended a number of streaks, including a current six-match skid. The win away from home snapped a 17-match losing streak on the road dating back to September, 2013. The Warriors also beat the Gators for the first time in 13 tries going back to the 2008 season.

Massengale, Walker Dominated: Taylor Massengale and Paige Walker were the two tall towers that dominated the Gators on Saturday. Massengale was prolific with a .562 attacking percentage. She had 11 kills on 16 attempts with just two errors. Walker hit .417 with 11 kills as well (24 tries, 1 error). Together, the duo were 22 for 40 with three errors. Massengale also had three assisted blocks.

UCSD is Not Ranked: For the first time since 2010 (the last six meetings), this will be the first time that the Tritons are not ranked in the AVCA Top 25. UC San Diego received votes in this week's poll but Cal State San Bernardino remains the only ranked CCAA team at No. 14.

Miller in the Top Five: Morgan Miller is fifth in the CCAA leaderboard in service aces per set with a 0.35 average. She has eight aces in limited action (23 sets). The only other Warrior in the top 10 in any statistical category is Blair Ehrlich with 481 total attack attempts (10th).

About Cal Poly Pomona (8-6, 6-5 CCAA): The Broncos are in sixth place in the standings after winning three of their last four matches … Christen Williams is one of the top middles in the conference. She ranks second in blocks per set (1.11) and hitting percentage (.340). She has 135 kills, just behind teammate Deanna Blaine, who has 151. Blaine also has 178 digs and 27 total blocks … With 40 years of coaching experience, Rosie Wegrich is in her 23rd season as head coach at Pomona.

About UC San Diego (10-5, 8-3 CCAA): The Tritons have also won two straight to move into a four-way tie for second at 8-3 in the CCAA, one match back of Sonoma State (9-2) … UCSD is the top team in digs with 1,008 for the season (16.52 digs per set average) … Caitlin Brenton is fifth in the CCAA with 195 kills and Heidi Sierks is third with 10.03 assists per set and second with 612 total.
