UC San Diego out-digs a resilient Warriors team

10/18/2014 10:49:00 PM

Box Score TURLOCK - As the conference leader in defensive digs, the UC San Diego lived up to its billing but the Warriors certainly did not go away quietly and challenged the powerful Trtions before the visitors took a 3-0 match Saturday night.

UC San Diego had three players in double-digits in digs and tallied 63 on the night as they beat Cal State Stanislaus, 25-18, 25-23, 25-18, to improve to 11-6 overall and 9-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Warriors, knowing they have to play a team that will keep rallies going, kept up the pace and kept attacking before falling to 2-15, 2-11 CCAA.

In the end, libero Bailey Turk and Amanda Colla each had 14 digs and Caitlin Brenton added 12 to pace the Tritons team, which now averages 17.1 digs per set with a 1,161 season total. At Chico State Friday night, UCSD had 90 digs as a team in a four-set loss.

Cal State Stanislaus, however, kept up the pace behind the stellar defensive play in the backline of libero Sarah Crowl, who finished with a game-best 18 digs. Hannah Green and Paige Walker each also added nine digs to the 53 total.

On the attack, Blair Ehrlich led the Warriors for the second straight night with 8 kills and a strong .217 attacking percentage. Courtney Lewis chipped in six kills and Walker had five to pace Stanislaus.

UC San Diego, which was led by Danielle Dahle's 12 kills, extended its winning streak over Stanislaus to eight matches. Caitlin Brenton and Colla each had eight kills for the Tritions as well.

The Warriors are back on the road again next week as they travel to Cal State East Bay, a team they beat on Sept. 20, and Cal State Monterey Bay.
