Jose Ramirez scored early in the second half and the Warriors defense earns another shutout victory as Cal State Stanislaus defeated Sonoma State, 2-0, on a warm Sunday afternoon at Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors picked up three points in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings and improved to 2-1-1 in conference play. Stanislaus is 4-4-2 overall while Sonoma State fell to 6-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 CCAA.
Cal State Stanislaus snapped a three-game losing streak to Sonoma State, which won both matches in 2013. For the Warriors' defense and goalkeepers, it was their fifth shutout of the season. The Warriors have only allowed one goal in four conference matches.
Clint Long picked up another shutout on Sunday and collected three saves. He personally has four of the team's five shutouts.
After a first half that saw 10-4 shots advantage on the Sonoma State without any scoring, the Warriors got on the scoreboard first on the Ramirez goal at 48:15 from a
Gerardo Cazares cross.
