TURLOCK — Playing against a team trying to win the conference championship out-right, the Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team will put the season in the books after the three-set loss to Sonoma State.
With the relatively easy 25-13, 25-12, 25-6 win, Sonoma State wins its first California Collegiate Athletic Association championship edging Cal State San Bernardino by one game in the standings. Caylie Seitz had 12 kills and Madelyn Densberger 11 kills to lead the Seawolves, now 20-6 overall and 18-4 in the CCAA.
The last time Sonoma State won a conference title, the Seawolves were in the former Northern California Athletic Conference — a team current CSUS head coach Chris Lore (formerly Difani) was a major part of.
For Lore's youthful Stanislaus 2014 team — on senior night, they only honored a former women's basketball star who was using her fifth year on the volleyball team — the Warriors will end the season 2-14, 2-20 CCAA.
Blair Ehrlich had six kills to lead the Warriors. Rachel Parson and
Jocelyn Cervantes each had six digs and Parsons recorded 15 assists.
Sonoma State played like the conference champions, especially in the third and final set. As if the "Wolfpack" (as they called themselves) could smell the CCAA title, the Seawolves rolled out to a 14-0 lead with Kelsey Hull serving. Hull ended up with five aces and 10 digs to go with seven kills.
