Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Academy of Art wins fast-pace, high scoring game

TURLOCK — The good news is the Warriors' women's basketball team scored 87 points. However, the visiting Academy of Art scored 103 as the Urban Knights defeated Cal State Stanislaus in the Warriors' home opener.

Camille Roberts led Stanislaus with 21 points and Jasmine Washington scored 17 as the Warriors even their record at 1-1 in a fast pace game.

Krystal Forthan led six Art U (2-2) players in double digits in scoring with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Urban Knights shot 61.7 percent for the night. Forthan is a preseason pick for PacWest player of the year and Academy of Art is favorited to win the conference title in the preseason coaches poll.

Roberts was the red-hot shooting Warrior hitting on 60 percent of her shots including five of eight from the three-point line for her career-high total. Washington was 7 of 10 for her 17 points to help pace the Warriors.

The Warriors did cause havoc on Art U as they force the Urban Knights to turn the ball over 28 times while picking up 16 steals. Alyssa Valentine had seven steals to go with seven assists.

Academy of Art opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take a 14-point lead and never look back, holding a double-digit lead for the rest of the game. Cal State Stanislaus went 0-for-6 with three turnovers during that same stretch.

The Urban Knights (2-2) set a single-game program record by shooting 61.7 percent from the field. They went over the century mark for the third time in program history and first time since setting a program record with 120 points on Jan. 8, 2014, in a 120-69 win at Chaminade. The 103 points are the second-most all-time in a single game for ART U, having done it one other time also last season with 101 points on Jan. 6, 2014, at BYU-Hawaii.
