RENO, Nev. — The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team again hung tough against a Division I team in the first half before the Nevada Wolfpack pulled away for a 83-57 early game on Wednesday.
The game, which tipped off a 11 a.m. at the University of Nevada-Reno's Lawlor Events Center, counts in the Warriors' win-loss records this time around as Stanislaus dropped to 2-4 overall heading into Saturday's CCAA home contest against Chico State.
The Warriors played two exhibition games against Divison I teams earlier this season, at Pacific and Fresno State, but those contests did not count in the records.
On Wednesday, the Warriors stayed with Nevada (4-5) until a 10-1 run by the Wolfpack separated the teams.
Aleseana Whitney's jumper at 12:13 tied the game for the third time at 12-12.
Camille Roberts and Whitney both finished with 12 points to lead Stanislaus. Whitney, who didn't start for the first time this season, came off the bench and shot 5 of 9 for a new career high total. Robert made 3 of 5 three-point attempts to increase her team-lead 15 treys this season. Three other Warriors —
Alysa Valentine,
Briana Cotton and
Cassidy Sanders-Curry — each chipped in six points.
As a team, the Warriors shot just 26.5 percent in the first half en route to a 31.1 percent shooting game.
Riley Holladay, who is from Reno and was making a home-appearance, had three points and four rebounds.
Nevada, which out-rebounded the Warriors 56-26, was led by Mimi Mungedi with 18 points. The 6-foot-8 center also pulled 10 rebounds and blocked three shots. Anna Cameron added 17 points for the Wolfpack.
