Volleyball dropped three-set match at Humboldt State

Box Score ARCATA — Upstart team Humboldt State came out strong Thursday night as the Lumberjacks rolled in straight sets over Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA volleyball action at Lumberjack Arena.

Cal State Stanislaus, led by nine kills from Paige Walker, fell to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play during this long road trip. Blair Ehrlich had six kills while Lindsay Skadeland and Jocelyn Cervantes each chipped in five to pace the Warriors.

Humboldt State, now 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA, fired a .351 attacking percentage in set No. 1 to win 25-18 and never stopped. They pounded away 19 kills on 32 tries with just four errors in the second for a .469 hitting average that resulted in a lopsided 25-12 score.

For the match, the Lumberjacks were .348 with 50 kills and 11 errors. They also blocked six shots with 12 assisted blocks. Ashley Owen had 11 kills and two other players — Nicole Bewley and Symone Hayden — each had nine.

HSU has won three straight over the Warriors after Stanislaus dominated the series with eight consecutive wins prior to the 2013 season.

Hailey Gruetzmacher had 13 digs and Hannah Green assisted on 15 kills with two service aces and seven digs.

The Warriors travel to face No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino in San Bernardino's Coussoulis Arena, where they are 0-16.
