Box Score SEASIDE — For the second match this weekend, the Warriors defense shut down the opposition as Cal State Stanislaus blanked another CCAA foe — this time coming away with a victory on the road.
Jose Ramirez scored a goal and assisted on another as the Warriors shoutout Cal State Monterey Bay, 2-0, on Sunday. The win — the Warriors' sixth straight over the Otters during conference play — propelled Stanislaus to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 CCAA records.
Stanislaus and Cal State Monterey Bay (1-4-2, 0-2-0 CCAA) played two weeks ago in Turlock in a non-conference match that resulted in a scoreless tie.
This time, the Warriors scored early — very early — with Ramirez knocking in the first goal just nine seconds into the match. After the kickoff that went to goalkeeper
Clint Long, his punt found
Willie Gomez who out-let to Ramirez for the finish. Ramirez collected the pass and chipped the ball over CSUMB goalie to make it 1-0.
In the 20th minute, the Warriors score again. This time Ramirez hooked up with
Manny Villegas with a short through ball to make it 2-0.
The Warriors offense didn't stop there despite not scoring again. As a team, Stanislaus sprayed 18 shots with nine total on goal. CSUMB goalkeeper Evan Drake four saves before being replaced by M. Fernandez, who played the final 22 minutes and picked up two saves.
Russ Klabough was in goal for the Warriors in the second half and earned the clean sheet.
The Warriors did not allow a goal on Friday at San Francisco State as the teams played to a 0-0 draw.
Cal State Stanislaus will be home this week when it hosts Humboldt State on Friday and Sonoma State on Sunday.
