Men's Soccer: Humboldt State, Sonoma State visit Warrior Stadium

The Warrior men will try to stay on the winning track this week as they host Humboldt State and Sonoma State for a pair of conference showdowns.

Home Match Promotions/Events: Friday night is Pack the House Night, sponsored by Associated Students, Inc.'s Code Red Entertainment. It is also dubbed as Greek Night and Break the Record Night as the student body tries to set a new attendance record. The Warrior Cheer Team will be making its 2014 soccer debut with a halftime performance.

Series Notes: The Warriors hold the upper-hand in the head-to-head series against Humboldt State during CCAA play. Stanislaus is 11-4-1 overall and 10-1-1 CCAA against the Lumberjacks with an 12-match upbeaten streak (11-0-1) including three straight … The teams did not meet in 2012 (HSU suspended its season) … Sonoma State won both matches last season and three straight in the series, which is led by SSU 19-6-3. The Warriors are 3-5-2 against the Seawolves under coach Dana Taylor (since 2009).

Last Time Against Opponents: Cal State Stanislaus beat Humboldt State, 2-1, last Nov. 1 in Turlock. Christian MNadrigal and Jose Ramirez scored second half goals for the Warriors after HSU led 1-0 at the half … Sonoma State won the last meeting, on Oct. 27, here in Turlock, 2-1. Carlos Gavino scored for the Warriors but Taylor Varnadore scored two unanswered goals to lead the Seawolves.

In the Rankings: None of the three teams are ranked in the national poll this week with Sonoma State at No. 9 in the West Region, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Ramirez Got in the Act: Jose Ramirez accounted for both scores in Sunday's 2-0 win at Cal State Monterey Bay. He scored a goal just nine secods in and assisted on a Manny Villegas goal in the 20th minute.

New Scoring Leader: With a score on Sunday, Manny Villegas is now the new team leader in scoring with three goals. Jose Acosta and Josue Barajas each scored twice.

Another Shutout for GKs: The Stanislaus defense and goalkeepers Clint Long and Russ Klabough picked up two shutouts last weekend on the road. The team now has four shutouts on the season. Long has 16 saves and a 1.13 Goals Against Average and Klabough has yet to allow a score in 200 minutes of play with 13 saves.

Long Connection: Goalkeeper Clint Long has a connection with Friday night's opponent Humboldt State, which is located in Arcata, Long's hometown. Long's father is also an employee at HSU.

About Humboldt State (6-1-1, 2-0-0 CCAA): The Lumberjacks are unbeaten in seven straight (6-0-1) with a two game winning streak. They are coming off two overtime wins at Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State … Broxton Griffin and Chuck Pitts are tied for second in the CCAA with five goals each and Griffin is also second with 13 points.

About Sonoma State (6-3-0, 1-1-0 CCAA): The Seawolves were 5-1-0 in their previous six until Sunday's loss at home against Humboldt State, 3-2, in OT. The Seawolves goalkeeper Sean Taufer leads the CCAA with 35 saves … Armando Coronel and Cedric Dinane each has three of the team's 16 goals.
