Box Score TURLOCK — For the second straight match the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team dominated offensively but Saturday night the Warriors earned a positive result with a 1-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur at Warrior Stadium.

Manny Villegas finally broke the stalemate in the 71st minute as the Warriors improved to 1-1-0 on home opening weekend for the 2014 season.

Brady Taylor set-up the play from a free kick from just inside the halfway line with a beautiful service into the box. NDNU goalkeeper Jay Tsuruoka got a hand on it but could not handle it as the ball bounced around to Villegas at the near-post. Villegas took the shot and the ball deflected off an Argonaut defender and into the net for the score.

Similar to Thursday night's match against Northwest Nazarene, the Warriors dominated on offense, this time out-shooting NDNU, 20-11 overall with eight shots on frame. Tsuruoka saved seven shots, including five in the second half. The Warriors also took 11 to six corner kicks including eight in the second half when they put the offensive pressure on.

Defensively the Warriors hed ground and only allowed three NDNU shots on goal and none were really challenging. Esteban Berumen, who scored twice Thursday night against Cal State Monterey Bay, was held without an attempt. Stanislaus goalkeeper Clint Long picked up three saves.

In two matches, the Warriors have out-shot opponents 34 to 17 with a 16-7 corner-kick advantage.

The win even the head-to-head series with Cal State Stanislaus winning three straight at Warrior Stadium (2007, 2011 and Saturday night).

The Stanislaus men will travel north to Redding to face Simpson University on Tuesday before returning home next Saturday to host California Baptist.
