Burch sparks second half comeback, Warriors beat SF State

TURLOCK — Ana Burch scored all 19 of her points in the second half to help the Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team rally back from a 15-point deficit as the Warriors defeated San Francisco State, 70-68, Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Arena.

After going just 0-for-1 in the first half, Burch caught fire in the second half to spark a huge comeback as Cal State Stanislaus won back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Warriors improved to 5-9 overall and 3-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while ending a seven-game losing streak against SF State in the series history.

San Francisco State played extremely well and nearly picked up its first victory of the year before falling to 0-14 overall and 0-10 CCAA.

SF State's Jasmine Flanagan hit a three-pointer just before the end of the first half to give the Gators a 44-29 lead at the break. SF State would lead by 15 again two minutes into the second half — and that's when the Stanislaus rally started.

Consecutive buckets by Cassidy Sanders-Curry and Jasmine Washington jumped started the Warriors offense. Three pointers by Briana Cotton and Camille Roberts had pulled the Warriors within eight, 50-42, at 14:58, but the Gators pushed back ahead for a 12-point lead.

Then Burch took over.

Eight straight points by the 2013-14 CCAA Freshman of the Year sparked a 16-3 Stanislaus run during a four-minute stretch that gave the Warriors their first lead since early in the game. Burch, whose layup at 9:09 put the Warriors ahead by one, accounted for nine of those 16 points in the run. Stanislaus used another 10-3 run, eight points by Burch, to build a 68-60 lead at 3:39.

The Gators didn't go away. After a Leti Galarza three-pointer pulled SF State within two, the Gators had a chance to tie in the final three seconds but missed two layups.

Cotton finished with 13 points and Riley Holladay had nine points. Holladay also had two assists, a block shot and four steals on the night. Washington and Alysa Valentine each chipped in eight.

Burch finished the night 6-for-10 from the floor with three three-pointers on five attempts. She also hit four of five free throws and had two steals.

SF State was led by Galarza with 23 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Michelle Sutton added 14 points and Flanagan had seven rebounds and seven assists.
