Stanislaus out lasts San Marcos to win in five sets

TURLOCK — Blair Ehrlich had 20-plus kills for the fourth time this season as she and the Warriors kept pounding away at the Cougars to win a five-set contest, 25-12, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9, on Halloween afternoon.

Ehrlich had 22 kills and three other Warriors also were in double-figures in kills as Stanislaus State snapped a three-match skid to improve to 13-8 overall and 7-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors have also won four straight matches at home at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

Cal State San Marcos (6-19, 3-13 CCAA), which upset Chico State in three sets Friday night, was led by Taylor Degraaf with 13 kills. The Cougars, the second best blocking team in the conference, had 22 total blocks (all assisted) to made things difficult for Stan State. Faith Fortune had seven block assists to lead CSUSM.

Ehrlich's 22 kills is marks the fourth time she put-away 20-plus this season. Saturday's performance came on 67 attempts which is fourth most by a Warrior in a single match. Ehrlich had set a new school record with 83 attempts on Sept. 5 against Dominican. In that match, she tied her personal best with 26 kills. Ehrlich also had 20 kills in the Oct. 16 at San Marcos.

Also in double-figures in kills on Saturday were Jocelyn Cervantes with 12 while Taylor Massengale and Clairissa Larry each had 10 kills.

Maddi Seidl surpassed the 50-assist mark for the second time in her Warrior career with 51 assists against the Cougars.

On defense, Sarah Crowl had 24 digs, Cervantes 22 and Ehrlich 15. Morgan Miller and Larry each had three assisted blocks.

The Warriors are home again next weekend and will host UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino.
