TURLOCK — In a fast-paced match, the Warriors used a balanced attack with everyone playing solid defense to sweep the visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Otters Friday night.
Stanislaus State won its second straight 3-0 match this week by the scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-23, to improve to 11-5 overall and 5-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State Monterey Bay dropped to 4-10 overall and 3-6 in the CCAA despite 16 kills from Jessica Malcolm, one of the top outside hitters in the conference.
For the Warriors, they had three players with eight or more kills.
Blair Ehrlich and
Taylor Massengale each had 10 kills and
Lindsay Skadeland had eight. The trio accounted for 28 of the team's 36 kills.
Maddi Seidl had 30 assists.
On defense, four different Stan State players had nine digs or more.
Jocelyn Cervantes and Seidl each had 10 digs while Ehrlich and
Sarah Crowl each had nine digs. On the blocks,
Courtney Lewis and Skadeland were each credited with three assisted blocks.
The 3-0 sweep is the Warriors' second straight this week after they beat Chico State, 3-0, on Tuesday here in Turlock. It is Stanislaus' sixth 3-0 win this season.
The Warriors will host Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday to try and go for their third straight CCAA win — it would be the first time a Stanislaus team can accomplish that feat since 2010, when that team went 13-14 (10-12 CCAA). It will be the CCAA Dig for a Cure match as well as Locks of Love night at Fitzpatrick Arena.
