CCAA Tournament Regulars: The Warriors are appearing in the CCAA tournament for the fifth time. It is their fourth trip in since 2011. Stan State is 2-2-3 in CCAA tournament games. Last year, the Warriors played in the championship match before losing to Cal Poly Pomona in PKs … The Warriors won the tournament championship in 2012 at Carson.
The CCAA Men's Soccer Championships: Tuesday night's winner at Warrior Stadiium will advance to a semifinal match against top seed Cal State Dominguez Hills when the event shifts to Cal Poly Pomona. Friday night's semifinal contest will be at 4:30 p.m. Cal Poly Pomona, the tournament host, will play the winner of the UC San Diego at Cal State L.A. contests, also being played Tuesday night, in Los Angeles. The title contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday at Kellogg Field.
Upsetting the Toros: Stanislaus handed No. 5 ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills its first CCAA loss of the season on Saturday in an impressive 2-0 win. The Warriors shutout a Toros team that had outscored teams 40-13. CSUDH had allowed just two goals in eight matches during the month of October prior to facing the Warriors.
Regional Prowess: The Warriors entered the week as the No. 4 ranked team in the West Region and are looking to qualify for the NCAA tournament for the second time. The top six teams in the final regional poll (to be announced on Sunday, Nov. 8) will get an invite to play in the NCAA tournament … Stanislaus last appeared in the NCAAs in 2012 and won its first round match, 3-2, over Notre Dame de Namur in Hayward.
Record Setting Offense: Stan State added three more goals over the weekend, giving the Warriors a total of 50 goals in 2015. They also set team records with 48 assists, 148 points, 10 shutouts, and a 0.82 team GAA.
Kuzcynski Adds More: Daniel Kuczynski scored a goal in Saturday's win, increasing his career total to 22 goals and 53 points, both are new Stan State career records. His 11 goals this season brings him just two shy of tying Victor Regalado's single season mark. Kuzcynski now has 27 points, which is one away from tying Regalado's record set in 2009.
Klabough is a Savior: Russ Klabough recorded a season-best eight saves on Thursday against Cal State L.A. — and all of them were hard-earned, spectacular saves to keep the Warriors in the match. Klabough earned three saves on Saturday for his seventh solo shutout this year. He also has three shared shutouts with Alex Valdovinos.
About Sonoma State: The Seawolves were 5-1 in their previous six matches until the 5-0 loss at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday … SSU is the fourth best scoring team in the CCAA with 29 goals this season … Mitch North leads the league with 84 saves and is second with a .808 saves percentage … Brenton Frame has seven goals and six assists to lead the Sonoma offense. Armando Coronel also has six assists.
