BELMONT — The Stanislaus State women's basketball team used an uneven first half and controlled the rebounding game as the Warriors defeated Notre Dame de Namur soundly, 62-47, Saturday afternoon at Gleason Gym.
The Warriors out-rebounded the Argonauts, 61-35, en route to the big road win to even their record at 2-2 before the Thanksgiving break. Stanislaus State capitalized on a poor shooting first half by NDNU to run out to a 30-13 halftime lead. Notre Dame de Namur falls to 0-5 on the season.
In a balance scoring effort, the Warriors were led by
Jasmine Washington's 11 points. She also led the team as one of two players with eight rebounds each.
Erika Larsen also had eight boards.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry and
Reana Hardin each scored eight points to help the cause as 12 different Warriors scored. Sanders-Curry also grabbed six rebounds and dished three assists.
The Argonauts shot just 12.9 percent (4-for-31) in the first half.
Stanislaus led by as many as 17 points in the first half after an
Alysa Valentine free throw with 3:24 to go to make it 28-11. That lead was stretched to 25 in the second half, at 46-21, on a
Camille Roberts jumper with 56 seconds left in the third. NDNU got a little closer by slightly out-scoring Stan State, 21-14 in the fourth for the final score.
Stanislaus State will host a pair of home games after Thanksgiving with the home opener on Sunday, Nov. 29 against Holy Names at 2 p.m. Fresno Pacific comes to the Fitzpatrick Arena on Monday, Nov. 30 for a 6 p.m. game.
