STOCKTON — The Stanislaus State women's basketball team had Pacific on the ropes late in the game before the Division I Tigers hang on for a 74-61 win in a Tuesday matinee inside a loud Alex G. Spanos Center.
In this now an annual meeting between the two neighboring teams, the up-start Warriors challenged the slightly bigger and quicker team on its home court in the exhibition contest for Stanislaus State. The Warriors had lost by 30 points and allowed the Tigers 90-plus points
in their last two trips here. The game counted as a regular contest for Pacific as the Tigers improved to 6-4 overall on School Day, where they packed the Spanos Center with 2,000 energic elementary
school kids.Cassidy Sanders-Curry led the Warriors with 15 points and eight rebounds while Taylor Facuett scored 14 points and pulled eight boards.
Riley Holladay led the Warriors with 10 rebounds.
Pacific was opportunistic in the first half in building a lead as large as 16 points. The Tigers had 18 points off 13 Stanislaus turnovers in the first two quarters. The Warriors allowed just four points off turnovers in the second half.
With stronger second half defense, and not allowing points off turnovers, the Warriors rallied back. Stan State cut the deficit down to six points with three straight points by
Jasmine Washington to start the fourth quarter to make it 55-49. Washington finished with 11 points.
However, the Tigers got hot again with a couple of three-pointers to get back their double-digit lead. Another trey, this time by Hailie Eackles, extended the UOP advantage to 70-56. UOP made nine three-pointers as a team, including three in the fourth quarter.
Four Tigers were in double figures in scoring, led by Ameela Li's 12. She also had seven assists.
