Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late run propels SF State over Stanislaus men

SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors' offense continues to struggle as they could not fully recover from another slow start in losing to San Francisco State, 59-47, Friday night at The Swamp.

A 16-2 San Francisco State run in the middle of the second half pretty much did the Warriors in as the Gators handed Cal State Stanislaus it's third straight loss. The Warriors are now just 1-5 in their last six games — the win a double overtime victory over UC San Diego on Feb. 7.

With a chance to clinch a berth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament with a pair of wins this week, the Warriors actually could still clinch a spot in the conference event on Saturday, thanks to some help around the confernece on Friday.

Cal State Stanislaus now falls to sixth place at 11-8 in conference play (14-10 overall). The Warriors, fortunately, have a three-game lead on the rest of the conference and could still clinch a spot in the six-team tournament with a win at Sonoma State on Saturday.

Friday night at SF State (10-13, 8-11 CCAA) the Warrior led by one point on two different short occassions for a total of about two game-minutes. Christian Bayne's three-pointer at 1:20 was the team's first lead, 19-18, but SF State hit a layup at the buzzer for the 20-19 halftime advantage.

That was after the Warriors started the game 1-for-13 and shot under eight percent from the field and trailed 13-4.

Chris Read, who finished with a team high 14 points, gave the Warriors a 23-22 lead early in the second half, but that was the last time Stanislaus was ahead.

Alek Carlson's three-pointer at 11:41 made it 33-32 SF State, but that's as close as the Warriors could get. The 16-2 SF State run ensued and by 7:05 left to play, the Gators were up by 15, 49-34.

Rob Walters had 12 points and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double and Tyler Barber finished with 11 points. Only three other Warriors — Wes Bartole (4), Carlson (3) and Bayne (3) — scored on the night.
