Toros took two from Warriors in softball

CARSON — The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros took both games of Saturday's doubleheader over Cal State Stanislaus as they took games three and four to win the conference series, 3-1.

The Toros used an 8-run fifth inning to win game one 9-5 and won 5-3 in eight innings of game two with a walk-off homer to improve to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the CCAA.

Cal State Stanislaus falls to 7-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

Holly Mooring had four hits on the day, including a home run in game one. She went 2-for-3 with the two-run blast in the first game and was 2-for-5 in the finale. Cassidy Duke was 2-for-3 in game one as well and Nicolette Vizcaino also had two hits to start the day.

In game two, Deenah San Luis chipped in on the hitting with three singles.

CSUDH sent 13 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored eight runs on seven hits without any Stanislaus errors. Madison Murphy had two doubles in the inning and drove in two runs to help the Toros.

In game two, three straight singles by the Warriors in the top of the seventh tied the game at 3-3 with Kailene Begonia singling in pinch-runner Alexia McMahon. But the Toros got a leadoff walk ahead of a Jasmine Ruiz homer to left-center to end the game.

Cheyenne Harper made the start in game two and threw seven innings. Karina Callazo pitched the eighth for the Warriors.
