Pioneers take game one of series over Warriors

HAYWARD — The Cal State East Bay Pioneers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to over-take the Warriors as they took game one of the final regular season series over Cal State Stanislaus, 6-5, on Friday.

The Pioneers answered a three-run eighth inning rally by Cal State Stanislaus for the final score to improve to 18-26 overall and 15-22 in the CCAA. The Warriors are 21-26 overall and 16-21 in the CCAA heading into Saturday's final doubleheader at the Warrior Baseball Field. It will be senior day at Turlock in honor of the Stanislaus seniors.

Patrick Muly went 3-for-4, Marcus Mastrobuoni doubled and Skippy Ferreria triped in two runs to lead the Warriors offensively. The Stanislaus rally in the eight gave the Warriors a 5-4 lead, but Warrior closer Aaron Godinez was touched for two runs — both unearned — and gave up two hits in the Pioneers' final at-bat to be charged with the loss.

Marcus Wise went 3-for-5 to lead Cal State East Bay.

Saturday's doubleheader is at Noon at Warrior Baseball Field.
