Warriors win first Stanislaus-UC Merced meeting to stay undefeated

Box Score MERCED — It's time to party like it's 1999.

The Stanislaus State volleyball team posted a season-best in attacking percentage and three Warriors notched double-digits in kills as they improved to 6-0 on the season, matching the program's best start during the California Collegiate Athletic Association era.

It took Stan State four sets, but the Warriors downed the host UC Merced Bobcats (4-2) in their first meeting during the regular season, 25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20.

The trio of Taylor Massengale, Blair Ehrlich and Jocelyn Cervantes continue to pound away as they combined for 38 of the 62 team kills on the night. The three Warriors also accounted for 29 of 44 kills in Friday's win at Cal State Monterey Bay.

Massengale led the team againw ith 15 kills, Ehrlich added 12 kills and Cervantes chipped in 11. Maddi Seidl surpassed 40 assists for the third time this season with 44 against UC Merced, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Seidl also led with 17 digs and Ehrlich had 16. Morgan Miller did her deed at the net with three block assists and Courtney Lewis had two solo blocks.

The only set the Warriors lost was set number two when the Bobcats used a 7-0 run midway through to build a 16-7 and eventually held on to avoid the straight-set sweep.

But Stan State responded in sets three and four in running away fashion to post its sixth road win this season.

As a team, the Warriors recorded an attacking percentage of .338 on 62 kills and 151 attempts with just 11 errors for the season-best mark.

The last time a Stanislaus team start the season 6-0 was 1999, the institution's second season as a member of the CCAA. Unlike this year's Road Warriors, all of those wins came at home at Warrior Arena.

The Warriors will finally play a home match on Tuesday when the CCAA schedule begins as they host San Francisco State in a 5:15 p.m. match at Fitzpatrick Arena.
