TURLOCK — At the expense of NAIA opponent Simpson University,
Daniel Kuczynski's return as a Warrior was on display Tuesday night as the senior forward earned a hat-trick with three goals to lead Stanislaus State over the Hawks, 6-0.
Kuczynski, who also had two assists on the night, put-up eight points to set a new Stanislaus single match scoring record. His three scores in a match also tied the school record for goals in a contest.
Stanislaus State improves to 3-0-0 on this young season and will host Humboldt State next in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
As a unit, the Warriors scored six goals for the first time since 2003. In fact nearly to-the-date four years ago, the Warriors last scored five in a 5-0 win over Humboldt State on Sept. 9, 2011, here in Turlock.
There was just too much Kuczynski for the Hawks defense with his strength and quickness as he and the improved Stan State offense had little problem peppering shots at Simpson (0-3-0) goalie Michael Jones. By the end of the match, the Warriors blasted 30 shots with 15 on frame with Jones earning nine saves.
Manny Villegas scored his second goal of the season in the 27th minute to start the Warriors onslaught. Villegas also assisted on a Kuczynski score, in the 37th minute.
Willie Gomez took a Kuzcynski rebound in to make it 3-0 in the 35th minute.
Luis Hernandez was credited with an assist, the night's second goal and Kuczynski's first at 30:34.
Stanislaus scored three goals during a six-minute stretch in the opening half en route to a 4-0 lead.
Even with the Warriors pulling back a little bit in the second half — they only had seven shots in the second half — Stanislaus still managed to score twice.
Rafael Chavez bent a free kick from the top corner of the box to the upper right V for a goal in the 57th minute. Then, in the 62nd minute, Kuczynski booted in his third score by finishing a long pass from
Brady Taylor to
Danny Valenzuela, who flicked a header to Kuczynski for the goal.
Kuczynski, who was a Warrior in 2011 and 2012 before transferring to the University of Vermont, returns for his senior season and already has four goals this season. He now has 15 career goals, tied for second in the Stanislaus career list (Victor Regalado scored 17 goals in 2009 and 2010) and 37 career points.
The Warriors also tied a team record with 18 points (6 goals, 6 assists) Tuesday night.
