ARCATA — Arcata continues to be a mystery to the Warriors as they are still unable to come out of the Redwood Curtain with a win as red-hot Humboldt State runs past Stanislaus State, 94-72, Saturday night.
The Warriors were looking for their first win at Lumberjack Arena since HSU joined the CCAA in 2006 and they dropped to 0-10 there after Saturday's game. Stanislaus State falls to 5-8 overall and 4-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after facing two of the top teams in the league who are successful defending home courts.
Humboldt State, winner of eight of last night games now, improved to 12-2 and 6-2 in the CCAA. Over the last six seasons, the Lumberjacks are now 82-19 at home and were 9-0 on their floor before Thursday's loss to Chico State. Cal Poly Pomona is now 7-0 at home (77-14 in six years) after sweeping the Warriors and Chico State this week.
On Saturday night, the Warriors rolled out to an early 19-6 lead in the first eight-plus minutes of the game.
Joey Bennett's layup at 11:19 gave Stanislaus the 13-point lead. But HSU flipped that around by out-gunning Stan State 25-10 to take a two-point, 31-29, halftime lead.
It was all Humboldt State in the second half as the Jacks eventually extended a lead as large as 28 points — on a Jack Kaub trey at 2:09 left.
HSU made 55 percent of its field goals with 11 three-pointers. Rakim Brown led the Jacks with 19 points and Tyras Rattler scored 18. Humboldt scored 26 points off turnovers with Stanislaus committing 17 miscues.
Richard Medina led the Warriors with 12 points and
Christian Bayne ran his double-digit scoring streak to 12 games with 11 points.
Kyle Gouveia chipped in 10 points and pulled eight rebounds.
Stanislaus is home for the next two games as Sonoma State and San Francisco State come to Turlock next weekend.
