TURLOCK —The Stanislaus State women's soccer team successfully rebounded and opened this homestand with a 3-1 win over Cal State East Bay Wednesday night.
Goals by
Rayana Plancarte,
Gabby Squarcia and
Jade Poon lifted the Warriors as they improved to 8-5-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, keeping their CCAA tournament hopes alive.
"Our central focus has been paying the price with effort on the field. We did that tonight. We played with tremendous heart," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "We came out in both halves with focus and intensity. The result was two goals. That was fantastic."
The Warriors extended their winning streak over the Pioneers to eight matches while snapping a current three-match CCAA losing skid. Stan State, in first of four consecutive home matches, protected the House to improve to 58-16-6 at Warrior Stadium since the stadium opened in 2009.
Stanislaus will host Chico State Friday night at 7 p.m. before two more home contests next week to wrap up the regular season home schedule. The Warriors hope to play in the CCAA soccer tournament, to be held at Warrior Stadium, Nov. 4-6, but it will be an uphill battle.
"We just have to play one game at a time. We look at the rest of the year as our next season of six matches,"
Nicole Larson said. "This game was a perfect start to the beginning our next season of six games."
Larson, who played solid defense Wednesday night, assisted on the Warriors' first goal — a header by Plancarte at 3:16. Larson took a clearing chance and served back into the box for the goal. It was Plancarte's second career goal.
CSUEB (3-7-3, 2-5-0 CCAA) tied the game in the 33rd minute by a Jamie McPherson goal.
But it took just 1:40 into the second half to break the tie as
Gabby Squarcia netted a score from a
Maryssa McDuffy throw-in.
Lastly, in the 61st minute, Poon scored her seventh goal of the season after a
Clarissa Sandoval touch to make it 3-1. Poon is tied for second in the CCAA with seven goals.
