Warriors sweep San Francisco State in straight sets at home

TURLOCK – The energy level at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena was high as Stanislaus State volleyball swept San Francisco State in straight sets on Saturday night.
 
The Warriors (10-12, 7-7 CCAA) swept the Gators (1-20, 0-13 CCAA), beating them in three short sets, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17. Stan State is currently in fourth place in the CCAA North, a game behind Cal State East Bay. The top four teams in each division at the end of the regular season qualify for the CCAA Championship tournament in San Bernardino.
 
The Warriors dominated the Gators in almost all aspects of the game. Stan State tallied 46 kills to the Gators 23, 41 assists to the Gators 20, 10 blocks to the Gators eight, and 57 points earned to the Gators 33 points earned.
 
Outside hitter Blair Ehrlich led the Warriors front row with 16 kills. Taylor Massengale followed shortly behind with 12 kills, and both attackers tallied a mere three hitting errors. Daryan Heathcott had another strong night with eight kills and only two attacking errors.
 
Ehrlich and Maddi Seidl defended in the back row with 13 digs each. Libero Hailey Gruetzmacher tallied nine digs, and Jocelyn Cervantes dug seven.
 
Seidl also led the match with 28 total assists for the night.
 
The Gators were led by outside hitter Christine Johnson in the back row with 16 digs, and in the front row as well with seven kills. She was followed by Danielle Ryan and Abby Griffith with six kills each.
 
The Warriors will be back at Fitzpatrick Arena next weekend as they take on Cal State San Marcos on Friday, and UC San Diego on Saturday for senior night.
