Busy week on the road for Stan State basketball

Stanislaus State has a busy week ahead, starting Tuesday night with a road game at Chico State. Then, the Warriors participate in the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic in Belmont with games against the host and Holy Names.

#19 Chico State Wildcats (2-1)
Series Notes: 
The Warriors have lost three straight to Chico State and are now 17-22 against the Wildcats (1-2 in non-conference games).

Last Time We Met... was on Jan. 30, 2016, in Chico. The 16th ranked Wildcats made 12 three-pointers and won 85-50.

About the Wildcats: Chico is ranked #19 in this week's NABC Division II Poll … Three players (Isaiah Ellis, Justin Briggs and Robert Duncan) all average 12.3 points per game so far.
 

Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts (0-3)
Series Notes: 
The Warriors won the last two meetings against NDNU, including a 72-56 win two years ago at home. Stanislaus leads the series 4-1.

Last Time We Met... was on Nov. 19, 2015 in Belmont in a 59-53 overtime win for Stan State.

About the Argonauts: Notre Dame de Namur's last game was Nov. 16, a 77-69 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay at home … Lance Page averages 10.3 points a game … As a team, NDNU averages 57 points a game while allows 73.33 per contest.
 

Holy Names Hawks (0-3)
Series Notes: 
The Warriors and the Hawks only played once before, on Nov. 23, 2013.

Last Time We Met... was on Nov. 23, 2013 in the teams only previous meeting. The Warriors won 69-48 in Turlock. Marcus Bell had an impressive game with 29 points and 15 rebounds.

About the Hawks: Holy Names is led by Jason Webster with 17.0 points and 5.3 rebounds a game … Jewels Sanders chups in 16.0 points per contest … Holy Names is coming off a 94-68 loss at Western Washington last Saturday.
 

Another non-conference game vs. CCAA
For the second consecutive game the Warriors are facing a CCAA opponent without the game being counted as a California Collegiate Athletic Association game. Last Saturday, the Warriors defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills for their first win of the season. Last year, Stan State and Chico State met in a non-conference game in Turlock.

Preseason Tournaments
This will be the Warriors' second preseason tournament of the season. They played in the SF State Tip-Off Classic, Nov. 11-12, and went 0-2 … In 2014-15, Stanislaus also played in two preseason tournaments (at Dominican and at California Baptist) and went 2-2.

Mitchell Leads Team Three Times
Kaelen Mitchell
has led the team in scoring in all three games so far. He's tallied 52 points, including a 21-point out-put on Nov. 12 against Academy of Art, to average 17.3 points a game. He's shooting a decent 48.7 percent from the field (10 of 23 from three-point land).

Gouveia, Mr. Consistency
Kyle Gouveia
has been pretty consistency so far. He's scored 13 points in each of the first three games and made 6, 5, 6 shots in those games. He has also turned in rebounding totals of 7, 9 and 9 for an average of nine rebounds per game.

The Same Exact Line-Up
In three games, and the exhibition contest last week against UC Merced, head coach Larry Reynolds has employed the same starting line-up all three times. He's featured Stephen Evans at the point guard with Richard Medina and Kaelen Mitchell as the shooting guard/small forward. The two bigs inside have been Vondel Faniel and Kyle Gouveia.

Against PacWest Teams
The Warriors are 6-7 in games against Pacific West Conference teams in five seasons, dating back to the start of the 2012 season. So far this year, Stan State is 0-2 after dropping both match-ups, by narrow margins, at the SF State Tip-Off Classic.
