SAN BERNARDINO — Cal State San Bernardino held Stanislaus State without a field goal in the final four-plus minutes as the Coyotes rallied to edge the Warriors, 59-56, Thursday night at Coussoulis Arena.
The Warriors held led by 10 points in the first half before falling to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Kyle Gouveia led Stan State with 14 points, Jalene Ragsdale scored 12 and
Kaelen Mitchell chipped in 11 points.
Vondel Faniel had 11 rebounds to go with eight rebounds.
Gouveia scored a layup with 4:34 left to play for a 3-point Warrior lead, but that was the last field goal for Stanislaus. In fact, the Warriors would net two more free throws the rest of the game. During that time, CSUSB used a 6-0 lead to take over the lead, capped by a Khleem Perkins three-pointer.
Everett Turner and Perkins each scored 16 and Eli Brown scored 14 to account for 46 of the CSUSB's 59 points.
Despite out-rebounding CSUSB, 44-34, the Warriors committed 19 turnovers against the Coyotes' eight. CSUSB (6-4, 2-3 CCAA) scored 19 points off those Stanislaus miscues.
