Otters used eight extra-base hits to rout Warriors

SEASIDE — Cal State Monterey Bay used six doubles and went yard twice as the potent offense utilizes home field advantage to rout Stanislaus State, 11-3, in a non-conference game on Sunday.

The Warriors weren't able to come up with enough hits with runners on base on the day as they fell to 7-3 while the Otters are 10-1.

Andrew Mallon had two hits, including a RBI double in the fifth, and Patrick Mulry drove in two scores with a single in the eighth to account for the Stan State scoring.

CSUMB jumped out on top 3-0 in the first by opening the inning reaching base on a Warrior error. Then the Otters scored runs with a double and a Kevin Davidson homer. Two doubles and a single in the third resulted in another three-run inning. Myles Hager added a 2-run homerun in the sixth to make it 9-1.

Hager ended up with a 2-for-4, three-RBI day with a double and a homer to lead the Otters.

Starter Jordan Kron suffered his first loss to drop to 3-1. He lasted five innings but gave up seven runs on eight hits. He did strike out five batters. Four other Warrior pitchers — Chris Senn, Ian Chandler, Blake Wilson and Cody Kruip — also worked on Sunday.

Stan State got on base with six hits and five walks but left a total of 11 runners on base. Five Cal State Monterey Bay pitchers totaled 11 strikeouts with starter Ryan Boydstun going five innings for the win. He gave up one run on three hits.

Stanislaus State will open CCAA play next weekend against Cal State East Bay (9-2) with home games on Friday (at 3 p.m.) and Sunday (Noon). The teams play a doubleheader in Hayward on Saturday.
