LAS VEGAS — Playing against Desert Stinger tournament host Montana State Billings late into the night, the Warriors won a slugfest at a quarter after 11 p.m. to split on the opening day of their season.
Stanislaus (1-1) out-hit the Yellowjackets to win 19-15 to finish a long day out in the Las Vegas desert. The Warriors had lost their opener, 9-6, to Minot State earlier in the afternoon.
The Warriors used a 10-run fourth inning against MSUB for a 12-6 lead. Stanislaus started the inning with five straight hits — including a RBI double by
Cheyenne Harper and a run-scoring hit by
Bryanna Menor. Harper would come up to bat again in the inning to belt a three-run homer to center to cap the wild inning.
MSU Billings would chip away and scored six runs in the sixth to regain a 14-13 lead. But the Warriors answered with six runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth for a 19-14 lead.
In the end, every Warrior in the lineup had at least a hit with
Alexus Martinez going 4-for-6 with four runs batted in. Harper ended up with three hits and six RBIs with a double and a homer and
Katelyn McDonald also had there hits.
Ruby Quiralte, who went 5-for-7 in two games, also homered.
Kiley Ragsdale earned her first collegiate victory with a total of 2 1/3 innings pitched. She allowed two hits but gave up three runs and walked five.
Cassidy Duke, went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer to drive in three runs to lead the Warriors in the first game. Martinez also had two hits for a six-hit day.
In all, Stanislaus State had 30 hits and batted .441 on the day.
The tournament continues on Saturday with the Warriors taking on Concordia (Ore.) at 4:30 p.m. and New Mexico Highlands at 7 p.m.
