LAS VEGAS — Two big innings propelled the Stanislaus State softball team to a 7-4 win over Concordia in one of the games at the Desert Stinger on Saturday before the Warriors split on the second day of the tournament hosted by Montana State Billings.
In the Warriors' other game, New Mexico Highlands scattered 11 hits to win 11-3 in six innings. Stanislaus is now 2-2 on the season and will play one more game on Sunday, against UC Colorado Springs, before returning home.
In the win over Concordia (Ore.), a four-run top of the fourth got the day started.
Bryanna Menor keyed the inning with a two-run single that followed two singles and a
Ruby Quiralte run-scoring double.
After the Cavaliers tied the score at 4-4 after four innings, Stan State used a three-run fifth to jump ahead for the eventual win. In that fifth inning,
Alex Rowell delivered a pinch-hit single up the middle that scored two runs to highlight the frame.
Cassidy Duke and
Brianna Martens had both walked earlier in the inning.
Cheyenne Harper got the win in game one with three innings of relief work.
Alexus Martinez went 3-for-5 and Harper also had two hits to lead the Stanislaus offense.
In the late game, Duke went 3-for-3 but New Mexico Highlands scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game. That inning featured six singles and two Warrior errors as NMHU sent 10 batters to the plate.
